Year of Establishment: 2008
Affiliated to Ambedkar University the Department of Botany, Government Degree College, Veeraghattam Srikakulam offers B.Sc Botany with all required facilities to support teaching and research in plant science. Interactions with local community organizations related to conservation and sustainable agriculture provide even more opportunities for hands-on experience in plant science for our students. Our graduates have gone on to careers in teaching, research, ecosystem conservation, landscape design and architecture and even the manufacture of natural foods. The Department of Botany is exploring the possibility of credit accumulation to earn the degree at one’s own pace incorporating skill-based education under CBCS, realizing the need for accommodating the slow learners with the high achievements in the academic programs.

Teaching Methods Adopted to Improve Student Learning
Realizing the significance of institutional accountability in the teaching
learning and evaluation process, the department implements adequate inbuilt
mechanisms and adopts new mechanisms in achieving the goals of academic
excellence. For effective delivery of the curriculum, faculty members update their knowledge of subjects through following practices and strategies
1. Lecture and Demonstration, Research based pedagogical tools, Interactive/ blended mode of teaching methods of pedagogical tools used.
2. Participation and presentation of research papers in various international and national seminar
Seminars and group discussions arranged for students.
3. ICT based modern teaching aids are used.
4. To take the review of the curriculum to be taught and prepare the teaching plan for theory and practical.
5. The faculties are well trained through orientation programmes, refresher courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, Guest lectures are organized for the students.
